Accessibility Overview
SEN Suitability
Pirates of the Caribbean takes guests on a slow-moving boat journey through detailed pirate villages, naval battles, and treasure-filled coves. The experience is cinematic, with animatronics, music, and environmental effects.
- Noise Level: Moderate to high at times, includes cannon fire, thunder, shouting pirates, and background music
- Visual Effects: Changes in lighting, simulated fire, fog effects, and dynamic set pieces
- Movement: Smooth boat travel with two small drops; no high-speed sections
- Storyline: Follows the adventures (and misadventures) of pirates raiding towns, hiding treasure, and celebrating their plunder
- SEN Tips: Guests sensitive to loud noises may wish to use ear defenders. The dark environment and occasional loud moments could be overstimulating for some neurodiverse visitors
Mobility Suitability
- Wheelchair Use: Guests must transfer from the wheelchair into the boat
- Boarding:
- Requires stepping down into the boat from the loading platform and sitting low to the water
- Cast Members are available to assist with transfers and steady the boat during boarding
- Storage: Wheelchairs and mobility aids are left with attendants at the boarding dock and returned at the unloading point
Priority & Easy Access Card Information
Guests with a Priority Card or Easy Access Card can use the designated accessible entrance and queue, which is separate from the main line.
How to Access It:
- From the main Pirates of the Caribbean entrance in Adventureland, look for signs directing you to Captain Jack’s restaurant. The accessible entrance is located at the exit of the ride, to the right-hand side of this restaurant. This step-free route leads directly toward the boarding area
- Follow the wide, level pathway to the accessible queue area, located close to the unloading/boarding dock
- Present your Priority or Easy Access Card to the Cast Member for direct access to boarding assistance
Queue Conditions:
- Mostly indoors and dimly lit, with narrow areas in some sections
- Themed to resemble pirate fortresses, caves, and ports, with ambient sounds throughout
- Flat, smooth flooring makes navigation easier, though space can feel tight in places
Ride Experience
Guests board a long, flat-bottomed boat for a journey through a variety of pirate scenes.
Expect:
- Two small drops, one near the start and one mid-ride
- Cannon battle scenes between ships and coastal forts
- Animatronic pirates singing, shouting, and interacting with each other
- Treasure rooms, burning villages, and tropical jungle environments
- A finale that brings the story full circle before returning to the dock
Practical Tips
- Best Time to Ride: Midday or evening, when queues are generally shorter
- Closest Accessible Toilets: Near the entrance to Adventure Isle or across from Colonel Hathi’s Pizza Outpost
- Quiet Rest Area: Shaded seating areas in Adventure Isle or by the Blue Lagoon Restaurant (Captain Jack’s) terrace
- Bag & Medical Equipment Storage: Small bags can be taken on board; larger items should be left with a non-rider or with ride attendants
